Well, we are now around the middle of the first month in the new year, and of course half of us if not all of us have goals or plans to do I really advice you to have one if you don’t

I want to talk about sth extremely important and common as well, it’s affect our goals and then our lives, and that’s why it’s serious.

One of the biggest problem with our targets that we tend to stay in our comfort zone rather than go for it : I do want to get rid of those 5 kilograms but I don’t want to stop eating unhealthy food. or I do want memorize the Quran but I don’t want to commit myself to sit for one hour just to read it and understand it and so on.

This problem “which we don’t want to get out of our comfort area” could be summarized in one word : Laziness .

it is such a topic that we need to motivate ourselves regularly to avoid it  .

*The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to supplicate: “Allahumma inni a’udhu bika minal-ajzi wal- kasali, wal-jubni wal-harami, wal-bukhli, wa a’udhu bika min ‘adhabil- qabri, wa a’udhu bika min fitnatil-mahya wal-mamat [O Allah! I seek refuge in You from helplessness (to do good), indolence, cowardice, senility, and miserliness; and I seek Your Protection against the torment of the grave and the trials of life and death].” Another narration adds: “wa dala’id-daini wa ghalabatir-rijal (And from the burden of indebtedness and the tyranny of men).”

*” We have entered upon evening and so, too, the whole Kingdom of Allah has entered upon evening. Praise is due to Allah. There is no god but Allah, the One having no partner with Him.” He (the narrator) said: I think that he also uttered (in this supplication these words):” His is tne Sovercignty and to Him is praise due and He is Potent over everything. My Lord, I beg of Thee good that lies in this night and good that follows it and I seek refuge in Thee from the evil that lies in this night and from the evil of that which follows it. My Lord, I seek refuge in Thee from sloth, from the evil of vanity. My Lord, I seek refuge in Thee from torment of the Hell-Fire and from torment of the grave.” And when it was morning he said like this:” We entered upon morning and the whole Kingdom of Allah enter ed upon morning.”

Verily Allah has prescribed ihsan (proficiency, perfection) in all things

And If we find an imperfect done work we will find someone lazy behind it .don’t we ?

For example, who is completed her homework in the last minute hurriedly, Is she similar to the one that research and asks questions and reads books in appropriate time before to find the answer ?

Narrated by al-Hasan al-Basri that Every day, the new day say to us : O son of Adam, I am a new day, I witnessed in what do you do, so embrace me, because I never come back .

And that is really show us how important our days are. I mean when you got up, that means Allah gives you another chance to have an accomplishment in your life. Our days are not just a count down to our death, you have to make it worth every day, you have to make things, any thing that rise your level in paradise. And to do that, we have to overcome our laziness.

now I would like to discuss with you the causes of laziness and I’ve choose 5 reasons “there are too many but I will stuck with 5”

Of course, there are health reasons for those who have a lack of vitamin D or Anemia or under active thyroid , but even though, they are not excuses at all. I’ve seen a girls Suffers from thyroid dysfunction, her weight was over 100 kg  and the Doctor told her that she will never lose weight, but she didn’t listen, and continued her work out and her balanced diet thus she lost 40 kilograms!.

خمول الغدة

1 any way, the first reason in my list is: the absence of motivation, the ignorance of the consequences, Whether it is a reward or a punishment. Such as a person who is getting up late for the Fajr prayer, he or she listen to the alarm and think :just 5 more minute, she is maybe does not know the Hadith :

Whoever offers the morning prayer, he is under the protection of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime. ” That the reward.

and maybe she doesn’t know the Hadith

“When any one of you sleeps, Satan ties three knots at the back of his neck. He recites this incantation at every knot: ‘You have a long night, so sleep.’ If he awakes and remembers Allah, one knot is loosened. If he performs Wudu’, the (second) knot is loosened; and if he performs prayer, (all) knots are loosened. He begins his morning in a happy and refreshed mood; otherwise, he gets up in bad spirits and sluggish state.

It’s same to the person who feel lazy to get out of the bed and then lost the bus .

2 also,  the difficulty of the task and how big it is ,you know it is impossible to eat a big elephant in one bite, you have to break it down into small pieces.  There is a good example for that, there is a desert, the desert “let say it is name is X desert” is totally flat and you could see nothing instead of the sand . More than 1300 people died trying to cross this desert, so how did they fix this? They add oil barrel, every 5 kilometers apart there was an oil barrel and at any one point you could see two oil barrels the one is just crossed and the one is just coming up, so all we have to do is to steer for the next oil barrel. As a result, we are able to cross the biggest desert in the world by simply take it one oil barrel at a time .

So if you have a big messy room, divide it in a small tasks that you can digest.

who have a masters thesis and it should be 12000 words for example, that will be hard if we look at it at all, and they will evade it “flight or fight”, won’t they? Or maybe they will do it “they will eat the big elephant in one bite” and however they will relax and do nothing for a long time after that.

3The third cause is the hope length, so you might think: ok I will just watch this movie then I will do what my mum told me. on Monday I will start exercising. When I graduate I will commit  memorizing the Quran..

the hope length means that you live your life without any remembrance of the here after, and if you do that you will forget that you are going to die, and then you will procrastinate.

Ali bin Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him was afraid of us from the length of hope, he said: the most thing that I fear for you that following your fancy and the hope length .

. Islam encourages the principle “  Harvest/plow/cultivate for your (life of this) world as if you are to live eternally, and work for your Hereafter as if you will die tomorrow.   Umr bn alas

“If the Final Hour comes while you have a palm-cutting in your hands and it is possible to plant it before the Hour comes, you should plant it.”

Also the hadith of  The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Take advantage of five before five: your youth before your old age, your health before your illness, your riches before your poverty, your free time before your work, and your life before your death.

4The fourth reason I would mention, that the non-good sleep and the non-good diet, Focus that I’ve said good instead of enough. Some people sleep round 8 hours, but they do it in the daytime, so they prevent the melatonin levels which begin to rise in the mid- to late evening, remain high for most of the night, and then drop in the early morning hours. And it helps control your sleep and wake cycles. Imagine the body does not get the enough good sleep at night time? what is the possible result?  Almost have a desire to sleep all the day . isn’t it ?

Also eat a healthy balanced diet , If I eat lots of healthy food, it is healthy but excessive,  as a result I will feel satiety. And I am not talking about eating lots of junk food or not eating at all which is worst (lake of energy and our focus) may Allah protect us .

The last reason and I believe that it is the most important reason is the friends.

There is kind of friends help you to do good deeds : Observe the prayer at Its proper time, read and understand  Quran regularly … in contrast there is a kind helps you to do nothing, so try to escape from this kind politely, make a distance between you and them because they drag you to things that you will regret it later. If it is not in this world it will be when the deeds of people presented on the Day of judgment and some one will say

{Oh, woe to me! I wish I had not taken that one as a friend.

He led me away from the remembrance after it had come to me. And ever is Satan, to man, a deserter}

al-Furqan 25:28

And if you perhaps one of this kind, you have to change yourself before you feel sad when you face yourself on the day of judgment. may Allah forgive us.

Ok we will move now to the solutions:

The most important solutions and we must start it immediately are Supplications and the morning and evening recited and reading the Quran regularly. Seek it from Allah specially in the situation that we are surly that we will get the response from Allah Almighty. Do you know one of them ?

the Day of Arafa,  the last part of the night and after the conclusion of the obligatory prayers,  Friday ,sujood ..

If you want more time, if you want Barakah in your day, spend more time with Quran,

Said one of the predecessor: The greater my party from the Quran, the greater the blessing in my time.

and another one said: increase your reading of the Quran and do not leave it, while what you want becomes easier as much as you read the quran .

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said which its mean: who wants a blessing in his/her day, he/she have to Exploit the time shortly before dawn, who wants a blessing in his/her week, he have to exploit the Friday day, and who wants a blessing in his year he have to exploit the Ramadan month.

Monthly layout

Also one of the effective suggestions is plan your day whether you will abide it or not (that better more than you don’t plan). you will save up to 2 hours a day, if you start plan your day for 10-12 minutes. here is some tips : it is better to plan before you go to sleep shortly so your subconscious mind will work on your list all night long while you sleep, restrict your tasks by specific time or whatever, instead of write : doing exercise. Write: doing exercise for 30 minutes, reading 5 pages from the X book, or reading for 30 minutes. Call my relative for 20 minutes . and So on , work 5 tasks per day. 2 of them are big tasks with one hour for each one. And the rest are small tasks with 20 minutes for each one, it is important to have a break between them (reasonable time).

The idea is when you write your task down it will be easier to accomplish and actually to make you feel happy when you mark your task as done.

It’s not called OCD or Type-A, it’s called being organized. — Original Content…

Sometimes we do have a regular tasks, such as read the Quran or exercise for 30 minute and so on, and those are good to write them in a schedule rather than write them every single day

you can download this simple schedule from here monthly goals

3 Do not interrupt yourself, complete your current task first then go to another action. this guide us the third point: Avoid the distract. What kind of distract that comes in your mind when you listen (distract)?

For me it is my phone, what I can do is make it silence, or leave it in my cupboard, or give it to someone till I accomplish my task. And there is a useful app which I downloaded it and it is called: quality time. It shows you how much time you spend on your phone and the duration for each app.

quality time app

Another kind of distraction are when you suddenly remember: oh I have to call my friend. I have to send this massage, I have to make this appointment . do not go with the flow, stick with your task, just write down in your note or in any sticky not those idea, and do it later when you finish, maybe in your break time.

The idea about distraction is when you focus on sth and interrupt yourself and then come back to done it, it will be harder and you might delay it to the other day and then forget it.

4 Fourth solution is the  5 minutes rule.

If you do feel that you don’t want to get out for your exercise convinced yourself that you will do it for just 5 mins. After 5 mins you will feel  like yes! it is fine, I will do more 5 mins and so on till you end with your exercise done. The same rule could be applied in too many situation.

5This lead us to indirectly resolve which is the organization. Everything in your life has a suitable place. And everything you don’t need it get rid of it. (someone told me that if you don’t use any thing for one year, it is defiantly no necessity for it.

There is a principle called : 20/80, this principle says that “the small number of causes is responsible for a large percentage of the effect/results”.

it is for example 20% of your cloths has been worn 80%.and you don’t know about the rest!.

20% of your makeup has been used 80%  and so on .

That is mean we have lots of things that we rarely use them, and what happened? They cause chaos and therefore loss of time.

It is an advice to be minimalist.

Beside that you will fell stress and disappointed when you need sth but you can’t find it, imagen that you are so late, but you can’t find your keys because there is no particular place for them?. or there is an important formal call and you need to write down some information but you don’t find any paper or pen ?

Therefore : If you spend 30 minutes to organize your life and keep things that you just really need that saves you from waste your time and feeling stress .

What about if we already know those solutions but we still so lazy to apply them?

    1. Lol !
Hope you find the answer too 😁
It’s true that we sometimes know the way , but this isn’t enough. we have to hold our selves to walk on it, we could have a rest for a few days or hour’s but then we have to jump up again 👍

  1. So inspiring and real. All you said is somehow in my head for a long time and unfortunately not applied. I tried some of them for some periods of times but I think that there is one problem you missed that many of us face which is feeling empty sometimes and disappointed when something goes wrong. I find myself stuck with too many regrets and too many other non good feelings too!
The problem in a simple sentence is that we want too many things to be done in a short time, we want perfection and I am hundred percent sure that tis won’t help us to achieve even a small goal!

I like your article and I’m thankful that I have read it this time because I will try your points one by one and will see the result inshallah.

Big thanks and let me say some react that was in my head during reading your words:
You are more that I knew you were and it might be not important for you but I am surprised by how great ideas and joyful life styles you have. I am proud that I know you personally and I will keep reading your blog as soon as you post in Allah’s will.

Keep motivating and be great FOREVER.

    1. Afnan seriously! I want to hug you noww 💘
You know, we’ve talked about your point, specialy in the “plan your day” Idea.
the matter is, when you apply 5 tasks a day that would be more applicable. even those 5 tasks you should to divide them into a set of 2 big tasks and 3 small tasks ,
what you saied is a fact, I do feel the same some days, I do want to be perfect in every thing, it is really hard to achieve our aims list perfectly in short
time and if so, I might lose my nerve at the end .
I really appreciate your reply, it means a lot for me, and I am more than happy that I know you personally too. ‘big hug’
